MANILA, Philippines – Nakatakdang magsagawa ng imbestigasyon si Presidential sister at Senator Imee Marcos sa Senado kaugnay sa pag-aresto kay dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa mga umano’y crimes against humanity sa International Criminal Court (ICC).
“As chairperson of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, I am calling for an urgent investigation into the arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, an issue that has deeply divided the nation,” saad sa pahayag ni Marcos.
“It is imperative to establish whether due process was followed and to ensure that his legal rights were not only upheld but protected, especially given the involvement of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) and the International Criminal Court,” dagdag pa niya.
Batay sa iskedyul na ipinadala ng Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau, ang pagdinig ay nakatakda sa Marso 20.
Nagbigay naman ng komento ang Malakanyang sa aksyon ni Imee at sinabing, ”She’s free to do that.”
Ayon kay Imee, iimbitahan niya ang mga opisyal mula sa Philippine National Police, Department of Transportation-Office for Transport Security, Department of Justice, Department of Foreign Affairs, National Security Council, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, at iba pang resource persons at mga saksi.
“The Senate must address these critical concerns to uphold the country’s jurisdiction and to clarify policies governing our law enforcement agencies and their engagement with international tribunals,” anang senador.
“Our sovereignty and legal processes must remain paramount,” pagtatapos niya.
Sa press briefing noong gabi ng Marso 11, sinabi ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na ang pag-aresto kay Duterte ay isinagawa “because Interpol asked us to do it and we have commitments.”
Taliwas ito sa naging pahayag ng Pangulo na hindi niya papayagang isilbi ng ICC ang arrest warrant laban kay Duterte dahil hindi nito kinikilala ang hurisdiksyon sa Pilipinas.
Matatandaan na noong 2019 kasi, sa termino ni Duterte, ay kumalas ang Pilipinas mula sa Rome Statute o treaty na nagtatag sa ICC. RNT/JGC
