MANILA, Philippines- Dapat makiisa ang Pilipinas sa Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) neighbors nito na naghigpit sa mga regulasyon, kabilang ang total ban sa e-cigarettes at vapes, ayon sa public health advocacy group nitong Huwebes.
Kasunod ang panawagan ng HealthJustice ng pag-apruba ng Vietnam National Assembly ng resolusyong nagbabawal sa produksyon, pangangalakal, pag-aangkat, pagtatago, transportasyon, at paggamit ng e-cigarettes simula sa 2025.
Lumahok ang Vietnam sa mahigit 30 bansa at hurisdiksyon sa buong mundo na nagbawal sa electronic smoking devices.
“The growing momentum across Southeast Asia to ban e-cigarettes or vapes presents a critical opportunity for the Philippines to act,” pahayag ni dating Health Secretary at Board Member ng HealthJustice Jaime Galvez Tan.
“By adopting stronger regulations, the Philippines can align itself with its regional neighbors in prioritizing the health of its citizens and protecting the next generation from the harms of nicotine addiction. Now is the time for policymakers to act decisively to safeguard public health,” dagdag niya.
Ang Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos at Brunei ang “pioneers” ng komprehensibong pagbabawal sa e-cigarettes at vapes.
Karaniwang ibinebenta ang vapes at heated tobacco products bilang mas ligtas na alternatibo sa sigarilyo. Gayunman, iniuugnay ito ng health experts sa iba’t ibang health concerns, partikular para sa mga kabataan.
Batay sa 2019 Global Youth Tobacco Survey, isa sa pitong Filipino students na edad 13 hanggang 15 ang gumagamit ng vape, o halos 1.6 milyong adolescents.
