MANILA, Philippines – Inaprubahan ng Senado ang isang resolusyon na lumilikha ng isang ad hoc committee na tutugon sa hamon sa lipunan at ekonomiya ng tumitinding sigalot sa Gitnang Silangan, nitong Miyerkoles.
Base sa records ng Senado, inihain ang Senate Resolution No. 350 nina Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Majority Leader Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri at Minority Leader Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano na layunin na “proactively address” the effects of the said escalations, and eventually establish a national contingency plan in crisis situations.”
“It is imperative that the country… adopt a proactive approach and be a step ahead, ready for all possibilities, not just the expected ones, through strategic planning and interventions to safeguard economic stability, food, energy, and employment security, and daily life as a whole for the Filipinos,” ayon sa resolusyon.
Nakatakda sa SRN 350, at bilang suporta sa naunang pinagtibay na resolusyon na humihiling sa Executive Branch na bumuo ng isang National Contingency Plan, itinakda sa Sendo na bumuo at pansariling magiging “Proactive Response and Oversight for Timely and Effective Crisis Strategy (Protect) Committee.”
Responsible ang panel na suriin ang lahat ng positibong epekto sa lumalang tensiyon sa pagitan ng United Staes at Israel laban sa Iran, at rebyuhin ang pangyayari sa implementasyon ng contingency plans.
“Further, Its vice chairpersons shall be the heads of the Senate committees on Energy, Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform, Trade, Commence and Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, while serving as its members will be the three aforementioned Senate leaders, and the chairpersons of the remaining permanent committees,” ayon sa resolusyon.
Sa interview ng media, sinabi ni Gatchalian na susubukan nilang buuin ang lupon sa susunod na linggo dahil kailangan nang kumilos sa lumalalang sitwasyon.
“We’ll convene. Our target is next week because there’s a sense of urgency. We’ll lay out carefully what the effects are. And I’m monitoring the situation. Until now, no one can say if the conflict will end,” aniya.
Inaprubahan ang resolusyon sa huling sesyon ng Senado para sa bakasyon hanggang Mayo 4 para sa Easter Break pero maaaring magkaroon ng special session kung kailangan sa panahon ng recess upang talakayin ang mahahalagang bagay. Ernie Reyes
