MANILA, Philippines – Tinawag ni Mayor Janice Degamo ng Pamlona, Negros Oriental na media stunt ang balitang pinalaya umano si expelled Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. para guluhin ang mga akusasyon na ito ang mastermind sa pagpatay sa kanyang asawang si dating Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo, at siyam iba pang indibidwal noong Marso 2023.
“Negrenses have become accustomed to the deceit and trickery used by Arnie Teves and members of his terrorist group,” ani Degamo.
“Yesterday’s (Monday) media stunt by Arnie’s legal team was nothing more than a photo-op designed to mislead the public and spread fear within Negros Oriental that Arnie Teves had once again used his blood money to escape justice,” dagdag pa niya.
Nitong Lunes, Hunyo 10, sinabi ng abogado ni Teves na si Ferdinand Topacio na ang kanyang kliyente ay pinalaya mula sa detention dahil “our government screwed up” at naghain ang Pilipinas ng extradition request sa maling panahon.
Sa kabila nito, sinabi ni Degamo na sinabihan siya ng Department of Justice (DOJ) na si Teves ay dinala sa kustodiya ng Timor Leste national police at humarap ito sa korte nitong Martes ng umaga para sa extradition proceedings.
Sa pahayag nitong Martes, sinabi ng DOJ na ang pagpapalaya kay Teves mula sa kulungan at ang subsequent rearrest nito ay “part of the country’s [legal] process.”
Hindi naman ipinaliwanag kung bakit ito pinakawalan.
Samantala, nagpasalamat si Justice Secretary Jesus Remulla sa Timor Leste government para sa “unwavering cooperation” para mapanagot ang dating mambabatas.
“This rearrest underscores the robust partnership between our nations and our collective commitment to eradicating impunity, regardless of one’s social status or influence,” saad sa pahayag ni Remulla.
“We look forward to Mr. Teves facing the charges against him in a court of law [in the Philippines] and not anywhere else,” dagdag pa niya. RNT/JGC
