MANILA, Philippines – SINABI ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na pumayag ang mga member states ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations na pasiglahin ang regional collaboration para mapanatili ang ‘agriculture, food security, at digital transformation.’
Sinabi ito ni Pangulong Marcos sa kanyang arrival statement kasunod ng kanyang pagdalo sa 44th at 45th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summits and Related Summits sa Vientiane, Laos.
“We discussed not just the challenges that we face individually but also our shared commitment to finding enduring solutions that will safeguard our collective future,”ang sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos sa kanyang pre-recorded video.
“The leaders of ASEAN agreed to work more closely together in promoting sustainable agriculture to achieve long-term food security,” aniya pa rin.
Binigyang diin din ni Pangulong Marcos ang kahalagahan ng pagsuporta sa Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sa pamamagitan ng pinalakas na access sa ‘financing at global supply chain integration.’
“We are collaborating with our partners to support our MSMEs by addressing financing gaps and enhancing their capacities,” ang sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos.
Alinsunod sa regional efforts para sa economic advancement, binanggit nito ang pagtutok ng ASEAN sa ‘digital transformation at sustainable and inclusive tourism’, binigyang-diin na mapakikinabangan ito ng pansariling layunin ng Pilipinas.
“This will complement the Philippines’ initiatives in positioning itself as a prime destination for sustainable tourism,” ayon kay Pangulong Marcos.
Binigyang diin pa rin ni Pangulong Marcos ang papel ng Pilipinas na pangunahan ang “critical initiatives that are significant to the future of the region, particularly as host of the Loss and Damage Fund Board, which facilitates the flow of climate finance to vulnerable countries.”
“The Philippines is privileged to play a strategic role in supporting the flow of climate finance to countries most vulnerable to climate change as well as to advocate for needed support and action on climate resilience,” ang winika ng Punong Ehekutibo.
Alinsunod naman sa climate change mitigation efforts, inanunsyo n Pangulong Marcos ang pagho-host ng Pilipinas sa Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction sa susunod na linggo.
Ang pagtitipon na ito aniya ay naglalayon na palakasin ang kooperasyon sa pakikipagtulungan sa ibang bansa pagdating sa ‘disaster preparedness and response.’
Sa isyu naman ng West Philippine Sea (WPS), muling pinagtibay ni Pangulong Marcos ang commitment ng Pilipinas na panindigan ang mga karapatan nito sa soberanya sa pinagtatalunang katubigan.
“I reaffirm that the Philippines will continue to defend our sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction in the West Philippine Sea,” ang sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos, binigyang diin na ang lahat ng aksyon ay pagsunod sa international law.
“The Philippines is continuing to strengthen its partnerships with all countries who share our values and our commitment to peace and to the rule of law,” ang tinuran ng Chief Executive.
Sa kabilang dako, sa sidelines ng summits, nagkaroon naman si Pangulong Marcos ng pagkakataon para makapagsagawa ng bilateral talks sa iba’t ibang lider kabilang na iyong mula sa Vietnam, Canada, at New Zealand.
“Discussions with Vietnam focused on agricultural cooperation, including signed agreements on rice trade, smart agriculture, research and technology, farm management, and sustainability,” ayon kay Pangulong Marcos.
Samantala, pinasalamatan naman ni Pangulong Marcos ang Canada para sa suporta nito lalo na sa ‘defense at maritime interests.’
Nagpahayag din ito ng kumpiyansa ukol sa nalalapit na Team Canada trade mission sa Pilipinas sa Disyembre.
Binati naman ng Pangulo ang pagkapangulo ng Group of Seven (G7) ng Canada sa 2025, na aniya’y may mahalagang papel sa pagtugon sa global challenges at pagpo-promote ng ‘closer cooperation kasama ang ASEAN.’
Tinalakay din ni Pangulong Marcos sa bilateral meeting ang mga paraan para itaas ang ugnayan sa New Zealand partikular na bago oa ang 60th anniversary ng diplomatic relations sa 2026.
Samantala, pinasalamatan naman ni Pangulong Marcos ang Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) para sa matagumpay na 2024 chairmanship of ASEAN, looking forward naman ang Pangulo sa Malaysia na Maga-assume ng ‘leadership role’ sa 2025.
“Making full use of our schedule while here, I briefly met with the leaders of Lao PDR the EU and Japan and expressed our commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations,” ang sinabi ng Pangulo.
