MANILA, Philippines – Tinawanan lamang ni dating Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea ang suhestyon na ipatawag si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa imbestigasyon ng Kamara sa war on drugs.
Sinabi ni Medialdea, na executive secretary sa panahon ni Duterte, sa House committee on human rights na wala siyang alam patungkol sa antidrugs campaign ni Duterte na kumitil sa buhay ng mahigit 6,000 katao.
Bagamat tanging 54 sa mga kaso na ito ang napag-alaman na kwestyonable, hindi naman ipinaliwanag ni Medialdea kung bakit tatlo lamang sa mga ito ang nakasuhan sa anim na taon na pamumuno ni Duterte.
Sa pulong balitaan nitong Biyernes, Hunyo 7, sinabi ni ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro at Kabataan Rep. Raoul Manuel na kung sinusubukan ng Duterte administration na patahimikin ang libo-libong drug suspects bilang ‘accomplishment,’ wala rin dapat problema ang mga ito na sagutin ang tanong ng komite.
“Regardless of the existing references or memos or orders (about the implementation of the drug war) the real reference used by the Philippine National Police and other government agencies to implement ‘Oplan Tokhang’ was no less than [Duterte’s] own pronouncements that drugs must be eradicated in the country within six months,” ani Manuel.
“All the numbers about the drug war—whether it was 6,000 or over 20,000—came from the government agencies themselves and cannot be denied. That’s why I’m puzzled as to why [Salvador] Medialdea claims he had no knowledge of these things,” segunda naman ni Castro.
Napikon si Manuel sa pagtawa ni Medialdea sa suhestyong ipatawag si Duterte bilang resource person sa mga pagdinig, na nagsimula na noong nakaraang buwan upang panagutin ang mga sangkot sa madugong drug war.
“Why is that funny?” tanong ni Manuel.
“If they’re so proud of their own numbers that they killed 20,000 civilians in just two years, then why is it suddenly ludicrous for them to explain that?” RNT/JGC
