MANILA, Philippines – Nanawagan si Senator Erwin Tulfo sa Philippine National Police (PNP) at National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), na binanggit ang kanilang kawalan ng aksyon matapos humingi ng tulong ang Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) sa pagpapatigil sa operasyon ng online cockfighting o e-sabong.
Sa isang pahayag, nagduda si Tulfo sa mga pahayag na hindi alam ng mga alagad ng batas ang kinaroroonan ng mga iligal na lugar ng sabong, na idineklarang ilegal ng gobyerno noong 2022.
“With the number of people carrying roosters inside cockfighting arenas and live video streaming happening openly, it is impossible that the police chief or provincial director doesn’t know where these operations are taking place,” aniya.
“Here’s a tip: one operator runs in Central Luzon while another operates in Region 4-A, but the owner hails from the Cordillera,” dagdag niya.
Sa ilalim ng Executive Order 9 noong 2022, binanggit ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos jr. ang agarang pangangailangan na ipagpatuloy ang pagsuspinde sa lahat ng operasyon ng e-sabong sa buong bansa, na binabanggit ang obligasyon ng estado na protektahan ang kalusugan at moral ng publiko, at itaguyod ang kaligtasan ng publiko at ang pangkalahatang kapakanan.
Bago ito, inaprubahan ni dating pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang rekomendasyon ng Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) na itigil ang e-sabong, dahil ang mga ito ang isinisisi sa pag-aambag sa pagsira ng moral values ng maraming Pilipino.
“I am confident that the new PNP Chief, Gen. Jose Nartatez Jr., and NBI Officer-in-Charge USec. Jesse Andres will take this fight against illegal gambling seriously because I know them to be good leaders,” ani Tulfo.
“If there’s a will, there’s a way. If authorities truly want to shut these operations down, there are ways to do it. But if they have the blessing of police and NBI officials, this problem will become a never-ending cycle,” dagdag niya. RNT/MND
