MANILA, Philippines- Sinisikap ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) na mapauwi ang Filipina surrogates na nasagip sa Cambodia noong Setyembre.
“In response to reports about the anticipated return of the 13 surrogate women from Cambodia, the DFA wishes to affirm that we continue to do all we can to make this possible. This is a whole-of-government approach and many agencies are involved in the effort,” pahayag ng DFA.
“The Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh continues to coordinate with Cambodian authorities on the matter. We will update you on developments,” dagdag nito.
Noong Setyembre 23, nasagip ng Cambodian National Police ang 20 Pilipina sa Kandal Province na ginawang surrogate mothers, ayon sa Philippine Embassy sa Phnom Penh.
Labintatlo sa 20 Filipino surrogates ang nasa “various stages of pregnancy” habang pito pa ang naghihintay ng repatriation, base sa embahada.
Noong Oktubre, inihayag ni Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Flerida Camille Mayo na sasailalim ang 13 buntis na Pilipina sa legal process bago ang repatriation.
Ibabalik naman sa PIlipinas ang pitong hindi nabuntis, dagdag niya.
Umapela rin ang embahada sa Cambodian government na huwag kasuhan ang mga Pilipinang nabiktima upang gawing surrogate mothers.
Ilegal ang surrogacy sa Cambodia at posibleng maharap ang violators sa dalawa hanggang 20 taong pagkakakulong, base sa ambassador. RNT/SA
