MANILA, Philippines – Ikinatuwa ng Tingog Partylist ang pagsasabatas ng Republic Act No. 12177 o ang Free Legal Assistance for Military and Uniformed Personnel Act, na nagbigay katiyakan na magkakaroon na ng legal na depensa ang mga unipormadong personnel na masasangkot sa anumang “legal battle” kaugnay ng kanilang pagganap sa tungkulin.
Saklaw ng batas ang mga miyembro ng military at uniformed services (MUPs) na haharap sa mga kasong kriminal, sibil, o administratibo. Kasama rito ang mga miyembro ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), NAMRIA Hydrography Branch, at pati na rin ang mga retiradong personnel na may reklamo na nag-ugat sa kanilang aktibong serbisyo.
Ang mga legal na serbisyo na maaaring matanggap ng mga MUPs ay kinabibilangan ng representation, legal advice, paghahanda ng pleadings, court fees, at notarization costs.
Sinabi ni Tingog Partylist Representative Jude Acidre, “This law recognizes that the call to serve does not end when the mission does. For those who face legal consequences in the line of duty, RA 12177 ensures that their service is not met with silence, but with tangible support.”

Ang pondo para sa pagpapatupad ng batas ay isasama sa General Appropriations Act.
Ayon naman kay House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, ang may-akda ng panukala, ang pagsasabatas ng RA 12177 ay patunay na hindi iniiwan ng administrasyon ang mga tauhan nito na gumaganap nang maayos sa kanilang tungkulin.
Samantala, sinabi rin ni Tingog Partylist Rep. Yedda Romualdez na sa tulong ng batas, hindi na matatakot ang mga kawani ng gobyerno sa pagtupad sa kanilang mga tungkulin dahil alam nilang may katuwang silang gobyerno. “This is about more than legal representation—it’s about safeguarding the ability of our uniformed personnel to carry out their duties without fear that they’ll be left behind when challenges arise,” ani Rep. Yedda.
Umaasa si Rep. Yedda na maisasabatas din ang iba pang mga panukala para sa mga uniformed personnel, kabilang na ang House Bill No. 8969 o ang Military and Uniformed Personnel Pension System Act, na magtitiyak na matatanggap nila ang kanilang retirement separation benefits sa tamang oras.
