Pagpataw ng prangkisa sa social media platforms pinag-iisipan ng Kamara

MANILA, Philippines – Para matiyak ang regulasyon sa mga social media platform at masiguro ang responsableng pagpapalabas ng mga content, iminungkahi ng ilang mambabatas na gaya sa mga mainstream television network ay gawin na rin na requirement sa mga social media platform ang pagkuha ng legislative franchise bago makapag-operate.

“I think it would be best if these social media platforms secure a legislative franchise in this Congress,” mungkahi ni Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers.

“If you are under the franchise of this Congress, then you will be subject to the regulation that will be imposed under the law,” paliwanag pa nito.

Suportado naman ni Abang Lingkod Partylisr Rep. Joseph Stephen Paduano ang suhestiyon ni Barbers, aniya, maaarin din na amyendahan ang Public Service Act (Republic Act 11659), upang isama ng National Telecommunications Commission sa listahan ng “public utilities” ang mga social media platform.

“I think we should amend our Public Service Act and include this in the list of public utilities. As far as I’m concerned, all the more that we have to do that,” pahayag ni Paduano matapos aminin ng Bureau of Internal Revenue na ang soc-meds ay wala sa kanilang nasasakupan dahil sa kawalan ng lokal na opisina.

Sinabi naman ni Agusan del Norte Rep. Joboy Aquino, Chairman ng Committee on Public Information na maaaring isailalim sa regulasyon ng Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters sa Pilipinas at ang Movies Television Review Classification Board ang social media.

“I think the KBP and MTRCB should update and upgrade so that they can help the government. I just don’t think we should just sit here idly by and allow these abuses to happen,” pagtatapos pa ni Aquino. Gail Mendoza
