MANILA, Philippines – Kinwestyon ni Senador Imee Marcos nitong Martes, Marso 3, ang mga pangamba at takot na imbestigahan ang umano’y paghahatid ng mga dating miyembro ng Philippine Marine Corps ng bulto-bultong cash sa iba’t ibang indibidwal, at sinabing trabaho ng Senado na suriin ang mga ganitong pahayag.
Ito ay kasunod ng privilege speech ni Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson, chairman ng Senate Blue Ribbon Committee nitong Lunes na kumikwestyon sa “logic and mathematics” ng mga alegasyon ng mga umano’y ex-Marines.
Iginiit ni Marcos na dahil mayroong pagdududa sa mga paratang, dapat bigyang-daan ng Senado ang mga indibidwal na magpaliwanag at patunayan ang mga alegasyon.
“This is not about whether the affidavits of the eighteen former members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines deserve to be dignified. When accusations of such seriousness are made under pain of perjury, the duty of our institution is not to ignore them, but to examine them,” saad sa pahayag ni Imee.
“Whether the allegations are proven true or exposed as false, truth can only emerge through investigation. The question therefore remains: why should there be any fear of an inquiry?”
Ipinunto ni Marcos na ang imbestigasyon ay hindi lamang poprotekta sa public interest kundi sa reputasyon ng mga akusado kabilang ang mga senador na idinidiin dito.
“Should the investigation ultimately reveal that the allegations are fabricated, then justice equally demands that those who maliciously dragged the names of others into controversy be held accountable,” aniya.
“The Senate should not allow the reputation of several of its members, including the Senate President himself, to be besmirched, if such is the case,” dagdag pa nito.
Matatandaan na inakusahan ni Atty. Levito Baligod at 18 ex-Marines ang ilang indibidwal na tumanggap umano ng cash mula kay dating Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co.
Pinaratangan din nito si Co at dating senador Antonio Trillanes IV na nagpondo ng hotel accommodations sa mga imbestigador ng International Criminal Court (ICC) at may inihatid din na cash sa bahay ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa Ilocos Norte.
Itinanggi naman ng Malacañang at iba pang personalidad ang mga alegasyon.
Sinabi naman ng ICC Office of the Prosecutor na ang mga aktibidad nila ay pinondohan ng ICC.
Nitong Lunes, sinabi ni Lacson na binatikos siya sa hindi pag-imbita sa mga umano’y dating sundalo para tumestigo sa legislative inquiry sa flood control scandal.
Ipinaliwanag niya na kinwestyon niya ang naturang isyu “to ensure that the testimonies withstand established facts and logic before we even invite them to testify.”
“If their statements appear to be demonstrably false and physically impossible to accomplish, wouldn’t convening a hearing effectively validate and dignify disinformation?” sinabi ni Lacson. RNT/JGC
