MANILA, Philippines – Isang panukala na tinawag na “Bawal Judgmental Bill” ang inihain sa Kamara, layon ng panukala na tanggalin na ang dress code policy sa mga public transactions.
Sa paghahain ng House Bill 11078 o Open Door Policy Act o Bawal Judgmental Bill, ipinaliwanag ni Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña na layunin nito na maging bukas kahit kanino ang mga government frontline services.
“We want government frontline services to be truly accessible. Hindi lahat afford ang outfit check. We want government offices to welcome everyone no matter your socioeconomic status,” ani Cendan̈a.
“Strict dress codes discriminate the poorest Filipinos who cannot afford to comply or are culturally different from the stringent prescriptions of some government offices and institutions,” paliwanag pa nito sa kanyang panukala.
Umaasa si Cendan̈a na susuportahan ng kanyang kapwa mambabatas ang nasabing panukala na nagsusulong ng pagkakapantay-pantay.
“These mandates have been historically neglected by imposing discriminatory measures against marginalized sectors. Farmers, fisherfolks, urban poor, indigenous people, and other vulnerable groups have experienced being subjected to dress codes imposed by public offices,” nakasaad sa panukala.
Ani Cendan̈a, wala naman koneksyon ang dress code sa serbisyo na nais ng publiko sa mga government offices kaya hindi na dapat ipinatutupad ang dress rule na pinagmumulan lang ng diskriminasyon. Gail Mendoza
