MANILA, Philippines – Inaprubahan na sa ikalawang pagbasa ng House of Representatives nitong Miyerkules, Marso 13 ang panukalang bawiin ang prangkisa ng Swara Sug Media Corp., na nag-ooperate sa ilalim ng business name na Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI).
Sa pamamagitan ng voice vote, inaprubahan ng House plenary ang House Bill 9710 na nagbabawi sa prangkisa ng naturang network dahil sa mga paglabag umano katulad ng willful dissemination sa mga maling impormasyon, at paglilipat ng ownership nang walang congressional approval.
Ang panukala ay inakdaan ni 1-Rider party-list lawmaker Rodge Gutierrez, ay inaprubahan na walang amendments isang araw matapos itong pumasa sa committee level.
“SMNI has engaged in red-tagging and fake news peddling, labeling members of the House, the former Vice President of the Philippines [Leni Robredo], and private persons as members of the New People’s Army,” saad sa House Bill 9710.
Dagdag pa, “The [franchise] grantee corporation also attempted to create discord between the Upper and the Lower House by insinuating that unnamed and unverified Senate sources have claimed that Congress has spent P1.8 billion in travel expenses in 2023 without any basis or proof. In fact, this baseless allegation was subsequently disproved by no less than the head of the Finance Department of the House of Representatives.”
Sa mga pagdinig sa House committee on legislative franchises, ginisa ng mga mambabatas si SMNI program host Jeffrey “Ka Eric” Celiz dahil sa pagtangging sabihin kung sino ang source niya sa naging pahayag na mayroon umanong P1.8 bilyon na travel fund si Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
Kalaunan ay inamin ni Celiz na nagkamali ang source niya.
Kasunod ng pagtangging sumagot sa tanong ng panel members ay kinastigo sina Celiz at co-host niyang si Lorraine Badoy at na-detain sa Batasang Pambansa.
Samantala, inireklamo ni Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Chairperson Teddy Casiño, sina Badoy at Celiz dahil sa pag-red tag sa kanya.
“Clearly, all these acts of SMNI run contrary to its mandate provided under Section 4 of the law that granted its franchise,” dagdag pa sa House Bill.
Sa Section 4 ng Republic Act (RA) 11422, sinasabi na ang franchise grantee na Swara Sug Media, ay may “responsibility to the public not to use its station or facilities for the dissemination of deliberately false information or willful misrepresentation to the detriment of the public interest.”
Inamin din ni Gutierrez ang pag-transition ng SMNI mula sa pagiging non-stock, non-profit corporation sa isang korporasyon sa ilalim ng religious leader na si Pastor Apollo Quiboloy noong 2006 bago tuluyang ilipat ang kontrol kay Bro. Marlon Acobo noong 2023.
