MANILA, Philippines – Pasado na sa ikalawang pagbasa sa House of Representatives ang House Bill 10174 o Geriatric Health Act.
Layon ng panukala na gawing National Center for Geriatric Health and Research Institute ang Dr. Eva Macaraeg-Macapagal National Center for Geriatric Health, na nasa ilalim ng Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC).
Sa kanyang sponsorship speech, sinabi ni House Committee on Health chairperson at Batanes Rep. Ciriaco Gato Jr. na ang panukala ay isa sa mga prayoridad na specialty facilities na magsisilbi bilang isang apex hospital, o end referral center na dalubhasa sa geriatric health care.
“The immediate passage into law of this vital piece of legislation will serve more than 10% of the Philippine population or roughly about 12 million senior citizens. This number is expected to rapidly increase in the succeeding years considering the rapid aging population of the country,” ani Gato. Gail Mendoza
