MANILA, Philippines- Tila naglalambing si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa oil-rich Arab countries ng kontribusyon sa Loss and Damage Fund.
Sa idinaos na 2nd ASEAN – Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, binigyang-diin ni Pangulong Marcos na ang climate change ay nananatiling ”one of the most defining challenges of our time—not the most defining challenge of our time.”
“Both our regions are climate vulnerable,” ang sinabi pa ng Pangulo.
”Our populations face significant climate-related risks, such as sea level rise, rising temperatures, desertification, and loss of biodiversity, amongst others. As host of the Fund Corresponding to Loss and Damage, or FRLD, the Philippines would like to encourage contributions through that fund,” dagdag na wika nito.
Ang member states ng GCC ay kinabibilangan ng Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, at United Arab Emirates.
Sinabi ng Pangulo na ang pagho-host ng Pilipinas ng FRLD “accelerate the unhindered access of developing nations to climate finance.”
“This shall help in the development and implementation of transformative and science-based strategies and initiatives for climate change adaptation, mitigation, and disaster risk management,” ang sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos.
Nangako naman ang Pangulo na isusulong ang evidence-based solutions sa pagtugon sa epekto ng climate change, ang ‘unprecedented impact’ ay may potensyal na lansagin ang komunidad at supply chains.
Samantala, ang Pilipinas ay nahalal bilang host ng Loss and Damage Board noong July 2024.
Layon ng Loss and Damage Fund na magbigay ng financial assistance sa ‘vulnerable countries’ na nahaharap sa mapanirang epekto ng climate change. Kris Jose
