MANILA, Philippines- Nagpahayag ng pasasalamat si Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. kay United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan para sa pagkakaloob ng clemency sa 115 Filipino convicts sa panahon ng Holy Month of Ramadan.
Ipinaalam ng Embassy ng UAE sa Maynila, araw ng Biyernes sa gobyerno ng Pilipinas, sa pamamagitan ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) – Office of the Middle East and African Affairs, ang hinggil sa royal pardon.
Pinasalamatan naman ni Pangulong Marcos ang UAE president para sa royal pardon, sabay sabing makapagdadala ito ng pag-asa sa mga pamilya ng mga convict at nagpahiwatig ng commitment sa Gulf state sa humanitarian values.
“The UAE Ambassador in Manila has personally informed us that for this season’s Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, no less than 115 convicted Filipinos have been set free,” ang nakasaad sa kalatas ni Pangulong Marcos.
“On behalf of the Philippine government, we extend our sincerest thanks to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for this compassionate act,” dagdag niya.
“The gesture of compassion is a reflection of both nations’ special partnership,” ayon pa rin sa Chief Executive.
Inalala ng Pangulo ang 143 Filipino na napagkalooban din ng pardon noong nakaraang taon ng Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) sa buwan ng Hunyo at 220 iba pa sa okasyon ng National Day ng UAE noong Disyembre .
Binigyang-diin nito ang kahalagahan na pangalagaan ang matibay na ugnayan sa UAE, nagsisilbing tahanan ng halos mahigit sa isang milyong Pinoy.
“As the Philippines celebrates this momentous occasion, both nations reaffirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, ensuring that such acts of kindness pave the way for continued cooperation and understanding in the years to come,” ang sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos,.
Ang Philippine Embassy sa UAE at ang Consulate General sa Dubai, kasama ang Filipino community, nagpahayag din ng kanilang “profound gratitude” para sa pardon.
“His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE; and to the esteemed government of the UAE for the gracious grant of royal clemency to 115 Filipino nationals previously convicted of various offenses. This act of generosity and compassion exemplifies the true spirit of mercy during the sacred occasion of Ramadan and the values of unity and goodwill,” ang sinabi ng DFA sa kalatas.
Sinabi pa ng DFA na ang Philippine Embassy, Consulate General, at Migrant Workers Offices sa Abu Dhabi at Dubai ay nananatiling ‘fully committed’ upang masiguro ang kapakanan ng mga mamamayang Filipino sa UAE.
“The Embassy and the Consulate stand ready to extend the necessary assistance to facilitate the safe and expeditious return of those granted clemency,” ang nakasaad sa kalatas.
“The Embassy of the UAE in Manila, meanwhile, requested assistance in relaying the names of Filipino convicts who were pardoned,” pahayag naman ng Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
Para sa PCO, ang pardon ay makapagbibigay ng kaginhawaan at saya sa pamilya ng mga convicts, marami sa mga ito ay nahiwalay sa kanilang mga mahal sa buhay ng ilang taon.
“This royal pardon also underscores the importance of compassion and second chances in the spirit of Ramadan. It is a sign of the UAE government’s high respect for President Marcos,” ang sinabi pa rin ng PCO. Kris Jose
