MANILA, Philippines – NANAWAGAN si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa kanyang mga kapwa- heads of states ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) na maghanap ng pinakamahusay na paraan ng pagkilos para sa rehiyon sa gitna ng nagpapatuloy na labanan sa Gitnang Silangan.
Sa opening ceremony ng 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings, binigyang diin ni Pangulong Marcos na nagtipon ang mga lider sa panahon ng “considerable challenge” sa kabila ng epekto ng tensyon sa Gitnang Silangan sa mga tao.
“The increasingly volatile situation in the Middle East has impacted our region, challenging us to remain agile in the face of uncertainties which threaten lifestyles, livelihoods, and lives,” anito.
“Over the past months, each of our countries has had to make adjustments to modify our approaches. So we come together now to study those adjustments, to find the best approaches, to face the future, together,”aniya pa rin.
Winika ng Pangulo na maraming tao sa ASEAN ang tinitingala ang kanilang mga lider hindi lamang para sa katatagan kundi para sa mga panahon ng pagsubok.
“The work of ASEAN must continue, not despite the challenges, but because the times demand our answers to those challenges for our peoples, for our countries, for ASEAN,” aniya pa rin.
Sa isinasagawang 48th ASEAN Summit Plenary, tinukoy ni Pangulong Marcos na ang laban sa Gitnang Silangan ay nakagambala sa maritime at air transport routes, tumaas ang panganib sa merchant at noncombatant vessels at aircraft, at naapektuhan ang daloy ng enerhiya at mahahalagang kalakal.
Kaakibat ang longstanding commitment ng ASEAN sa kapayapaan, sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos na itinutulak ng member-states ang “immediate cessation of hostilities, the peaceful settlement of disputes, the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and the restoration of safe, unimpeded and continuous transit passage in the Strait of Hormuz.”
Sa gitna ng mga hamon, tinuran ng Pangulo na ang mga ASEAN leaders ay dapat na makapit-bisig para matiyak ang regional energy security at resilience, matatag na food security, at panindigan ang kaligtasan ng ASEAN nationals.
“Today, we gather to confront with unity and resolve the repercussions of the situation in the Middle East and seek to advance our common commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity while ensuring that the benefits of our cooperation are felt by all our peoples,” ayon pa sa Pangulo.
Ang lahat naman ng heads of state ng ASEAN member-countries ay dumalo sa summit, maliban sa Myanmar kung saan ang tumayong kinatawan nito ay si Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
