MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) na iligal na gumamit ng water cannon laban sa kanilang barko ang China Coast Guard (CCG) patungong Ayungin Shoal nitong Sabado para sa resupply mission sa BRP Sierra Madre.
Sa isang pahayag, kinondena ng PCG ang mapanganib na mga maniobra at iligal na paggamit ng water cannon ng CCG laban sa kanilang mga sasakyang-dagat na nag-escort sa mga katutubong bangka na charter ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) para maghatid ng pagkain, tubig, gasolina, at iba pang suplay sa mga tropang militar na nakatalaga sa BRP Sierra Madre.
“The PCG calls on the China Coast Guard to restrain its forces, respect the sovereign rights of the Philippines in its exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, refrain from hampering freedom of navigation, and take appropriate actions against the individuals involved in this unlawful incident,” sabi ni PCG Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Commodore Jay Tarriela .
Binigyan diin ng PCG na ang aksyon ng CCG ay hindi lamang pagbabalewala sa kaligtasan ng PCG crew at ang supply boats.
Ang Ayungin Shoal ay bahagi ng Kalayaan Island Group, na isang mahalagang bahagi ng Pilipinas, gayundin ang exclusive economic zone at continental shelf ng Pilipinas, kung saan ang Pilipinas ay may soberanya, mga karapatan at hurisdiksyon.
“We ask that China Coast Guard, as an organization with a responsibility to observe state obligations under UNCLOS, COLREGs, and other relevant instruments of international maritime safety and security, to cease all illegal activities within the maritime zones of the Philippines,” sabi ni Tarriela.
Samantala, kinondena rin at binigyan-diin ng AFP ang insidente na tinawag na “excessive and offensive.”
Sinabi nito na ang pangalawang supply boat na patungo sa Ayungin Shoal ay hindi nakapagbaba ng mga supply at hindi nakumpleto ang resupply mission dahil sa mapanganib na mga maniobra ng CCG.
“We call on the China Coast Guard and the Central Military Commission to act with prudence and be responsible in their actions to prevent miscalculations and accidents that will endanger peoples’ lives,” sabi ng AFP. Jocelyn Tabangcura-Domenden
