MANILA, Philippines – Nagkasundo ang Pilipinas at France na palakasin ang kanilang kooperasyon sa dairy sector, inanunsyo ng Department of Agriculture (DA) nitong Sabado, Pebrero 15.
Sa news release, inanunsyo ng DA ang pinakahuling pagpirma ng memorandum of understanding (MOU) sa pagitan ng National Dairy Authority (NDA) at France-based Phylum SARL para sa pagsasagawa ng feasibility study ng Philippine Dairy Project.
Ang feasibility study ay popondohan sa pamamagitan ng grant mula sa Fonds d’Etudes et d’ Aide au Secteur Prive ng French government.
“The study will assess whether the project qualifies for a concessional loan from the French government. The Philippine Dairy Project envisions establishing a modern dairy farm in Ubay, Bohol, with the capacity to care for more than 300 cows for milk production,” ayon sa DA.
Ang dairy farm ay magkakaroon ng pasilidad na kayang makapagproseso ng hanggang 10 metriko tonelada ng raw milk dairy.
“The dairy project also includes collaboration with local cooperatives for milk and fodder production, along with capacity-building efforts to improve training and advisory services,” dagdag ng DA.
Anang DA, magbibigay-daan ang kasunduan sa pagtatayo ng milk collection centers at milk processing facilities sa mga piling lugar sa bansa.
Ang Phylum SARL ay isang French company na tumututok sa food, animal health at welfare.
Sa kasalukuyan, ang milk sufficiency ng Pilipinas ay nasa 1.66 percent lamang.
Sinabi ng DA na target ng NDA ang limang porsyento o 80 milyong litro ng gatas sa 2028.
“The country’s average milk production per cow remains low at eight liters per day, hindered by poor feed and management practices, high production cost, and insufficient dairy infrastructure,” anang ahensya.
“The NDA welcomes international collaborations and private sector investments to improve the country’s local dairy industry.”
Ang MOU ay pinirmahan nina Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., na nagrepresenta sa NDA, at si Phylum SARL managing partner Francois Gary noong Enero 22. RNT/JGC
