MANILA, Philippines- Isinara na ng gobyerno ang pinakamalaking Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) compound, matatagpuan sa lalawigan ng Cavite, araw ng Martes.
Sa katunayan, pinangunahan nina Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) Executive Director Undersecretary Gilbert Cruz, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) chairperson Alejandro Tengco at Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil ang pormal na pagsasara sa POGO compound na matatagpuan sa dating Island Cove resort sa bayan ng Kawit.
Taong 2017 nang ibenta ng pamilya Remulla ang resort sa isang real estate developer.
Nagsimula naman ang operasyon ng pasilidad bilang POGO hub noong 2019.
Sinertipikahan ni Remulla ang pagsasara sa pasilidad matapos na kumpirmahin ng lokal na pamahalaan na pinatigil nito ang operasyon noong Nobyembre 30.
“As promised, we visited the area by December to see that everything is closed. We will follow the President’s (Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.) directive that all POGOs must be closed. Per the local government unit administrator, they inspected the facility on the last week of November and there are no more operations here,” ang sinabi ni Remulla sa mga mamamayang sa ceremonial closure ng POGO compound.
Tiniyak naman ng Kalihim na wala nang power supply sa gusali o kahit na anumang ‘tanda’ ng business activities mula Nobyembre.
Ang POGO facility sa 33-hectare property ang itinuturing na pinakamalaki sa bansa na mayroong 30,000 empleyado, kalahati sa nasabing bilang ay mga Pinoy.
Ang compound ay kinabibilangan ng 57 gusali, kabilang na ang employee dormitories, gaming hubs, cafés, groceries, clinic, restaurants, spas at beauty salons.
“The DOLE (Department of Labor and Employment) and DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) are setting up job fairs for displaced Filipino workers so they can find new jobs. As for foreign workers, I think all of them have been repatriated as their work visas were downgraded to tourist so they cannot work here,” ang sinabi pa rin ng Kalihim.
Sa kabilang dako, sinabi naman ni PAOCC Usec. Cruz na patuloy nilang mino-monitor ang 100 guerilla POGO operations sa iba’t ibang lugar sa bansa.
“There are a lot of red flags. There are a lot of indicators pointing to areas that still have POGO operations. We have coordinated with LGUs (local government units) and we are working with the PNP to find them,” ayon kay Cruz.
Sanib-pwersa ang PNP at PAGCOR sa pag-inspeksyon sa special class business process outsourcing (BPO) facilities upang tiyakin na “no POGO hubs” ang nagtatago ng kanilang operasyon.
“We will be utilizing the barangays because most likely, they are the ones that can spot these. There are a lot of indicators. For instance, if a house’s lights are open 24 hours a day, even at night, and then there is a presence of foreign nationals. They also frequently order food via delivery services and then you would see huge piles of trash there. They also frequently avail of additional internet connections. These are some red flags to watch out for,” aniya pa rin.
Samantala, muling itinatwa ni Remulla na sangkot ang kanyang pamilya sa operasyon ng POGO facility.
Giit nito, wala ni isa man sa kanyang mga kapatid na sina Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla at dating television reporter at ngayon ay PAGCOR Director Gilbert Remulla ang nag-apruba ng operasyon ng POGO.
Sinabi naman ni (PAGCOR) chairperson Tengco na sarado na ang lahat ng POGO hubs sa bansa.
Bagama’t inamin ni Tengco na ang ganap na POGO ban ay nangangahulugan ng P20 bilyong pagkawala mula sa kita ng gobyerno, kumpiyansa naman siya na ang pagpapalabas ng bagong gaming licenses ang sagot sa mawawalang kita ng pamahalaan.
Siniguro naman ni (PNP) Chief Marbil, na pinaigting nito ang paglalansag laban sa guerrilla POGO operations.
“We have the Task Force Skimmer composed of the Anti-Cybercrime Group and we have reports where we are able to monitor their operations, how many people they have and we are also keeping a close watch on some foreigners,” ani Marbil.
Matatandaang ipinag-utos ng Malakanyang ang agarang pagbabawal o pag-ban sa Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO), internet gaming at iba pang uri ng offshore gaming operation sa bansa.
Sa Executive Order No. 74 na nilagdaan ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin na may petsang Nobyembre 5, 2024, nakasaad dito na hindi papayagan ng Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) na aprubahan ang mga bagong lisensya at hindi na rin papayagan ang renewal o extension ng lisensya.
Nakasaad din sa EO ang tuluyang paghinto ng operasyon sa Disyembre 31, 2024 o mas maaga pa rito. Kris Jose
