MANILA, Philippines- Nananatili ang posisyon ng Pilipinas para sa Ukraine sa gitna ng girian sa pagitan ng Russia-Ukraine at suportado ang resolusyon ng United Nations (UN) na hilingin sa Moscow ang withdrawal ng military forces nito mula sa Ukraine.
Sa isang panayam sinabi ni Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Enrique Manalo na nananatili ang sariling posisyon ng Pilipinas ukol sa Ukraine conflict kahit pa ang matagal na nitong kaalyado o kakampi, ang Estados Unidos ay tila kumakatig sa Moscow.
“Well, we maintain our last resolution. The US resolution was basically calling for peace. So, there is nothing inconsistent with that. That was consistent with the overall Ukraine approach,” ang sinabi ni Manalo, tinukoy ang hiwalay na resolusyon ng Washington sa UN Security Council na tumangging batikusin ang Russia o banggitin ang papel nito bilang aggressor.
“But as far as we are concerned, we still support the basic fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter,” dagdag niya.
Inihayag ni Manalo ang kanyang komento matapos na kontrahin ng Estados Unidos European-drafted resolution sa General Assembly, araw ng Martes, Pebrero 25, nagsasabing “with concern the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation has persisted for three years and continues to have devastating and long-lasting consequences not only for Ukraine, but also for other regions and global stability.”
Hiniling din sa resolusyon na agarang i-withdraw ng Russia ang lahat ng military forces nito mula sa Ukraine at para sa “immediate cessation of the hostilities by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.”
“This marked the first time Washington diverged from the Philippines and its European allies in supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity before the UNGA,” ayon sa ulat.
Sa halip, nagpunta ang Estados Unidos sa UN Security Council para magpasa ng hiwalay na resolusyon nananawagan na tapusin na ang girian, na hindi babatikusin ang pag-atake ng Russia sa Ukraine. Ipinasa ito na may 10 affirmative votes, subalit wala ang mga kakampi ng Estados Unidos na United Kingdom at France.
Sa ulat, ang Russia at Estados Unidos ay permanent members ng UNSC.
Gayunman, sinabi ni Manalo na ang US-backed resolution sa makapangyarihang UNSC ay nananatiling ‘consistent’ sa panawagan ng UN para sa kapayapaan sa rehiyon.
“But, at the same time, we also respect what the US did, the resolution. And I said the resolution was fundamentally sound because it called for peace,” ang sinabi ni Manalo. Kris Jose
