MANILA, Philippines – Paiimbestigahan sa Senado ang nagpapatuloy na El Nino phenomenon at mga epekto nito sa bansa.
Ang panawagang ito ay sa pamamagitan ng Senate Resolution 986 ni Senador Imee Marcos.
“Despite the various efforts and initiatives being conducted by the government and the increase in water rates, the entire country is still experiencing strained water resources and water crisis in various regions and provinces,” ani Senador Marcos.
Sa datos ng United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, 29,400 magsasakang Pinoy ang apektado ng tagtuyot, kung saan naitala sa Region 6 ang pinakamataas sa 18,000.
Naapektuhan din ng tagtuyot ang nasa kabuuang 32,200 ektarya ng taniman, na nagresulta sa 44,800 metriko tonelada ng production loss.
“Now, therefore, be it resolved as it is hereby resolved, directing the appropriate Senate committee to conduct an inquiry, in aid of legislation, into the ongoing El Niño phenomenon and the recurring water crisis in the country,” dagdag ni Marcos.
Noong Disyembre 2023 pa lamang ay sinabi na ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST) na 65 probinsya o 77% ng kabuuang probinsya sa bansa, ang makararanas ng tagtuyot pagsapit ng katapusan ng Mayo 2024. RNT/JGC
