MANILA, Philippines – Kinansela na ng mga manufacturer ang planong P3 na dagdag sa presyo ng canned sardines, ayon sa Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Sa pahayag nitong Martes, Hunyo 24, sinabi ng DTI na nakipagpulong si Trade Secretary Cristina Roque sa mga miyembro ng Canned Sardines Association of the Philippines (CSAP)—na pinamumunuan ng Chattrade, Mega Prime Foods Inc., PERMEX, Universal Canning Inc., at Century Pacific Food Inc. (CPFI) noong Lunes.

“putting to rest consumer concerns over a potential P3 price hike on the essential food item.”
“They committed to maintaining the current suggested retail price for canned sardines, a staple in Filipino households,” ayon pa sa DTI.
Ayon sa DTI, ang dialogue ay bunga ng mga report na nagpaplano umano ang industriya na humiling ng pagtaas sa SRP ng 155-gram na lata ng sardinas mula P21 ay gagawing P24 dahil sa tumataas na production costs.
Ngayong buwan, sianbi ni CSAP executive director Francisco Buencamino na tumaas ang presyo ng imported tin sheets dahil sa huminang halaga ng piso.
“We appreciate the industry’s commitment to the Filipino consumer, especially with the economic pressures families are facing today,” ani Roque.
Samantala, sinabi ng DTI na hindi pa nakakatanggap ng formal petition para sa price adjustment ang Fair Trade Group (FTG) “but initiated the meeting to proactively address the issue.”
Sa ilalim ng inamyendahang Republic Act 7581, o Price Act, minomonitor ng DTI ang presyo ng mga canned fish, na itinuturing na basic necessity. RNT/JGC
