MANILA, Philippines — Nakaalerto ang Philippine National Police (PNP) sa posibleng mga rally sa Marso 11 na magmamarka ng isang taon mula nang maaresto, mailipat, at maikulong sa The Hague ang dating pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Sa pahayag, sinabi ni PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. na may mga post sa social media na nananawagan ng isang malawakang motorcade rally.
Ayon sa ulat, planong dumaan ang motorcade sa kahabaan ng EDSA at magtatapos sa Villamor Air Base bilang paggunita sa unang anibersaryo ng pananatili ni Duterte sa international custody kaugnay ng kasong crimes against humanity.
“We are closely monitoring developments and coordinating with local units to ensure public safety,” ayon kay Nartatez.
“While we respect the right to peaceful assembly, we also have the mandate to ensure that there will be no incident that will disrupt normal activities and threaten peace and order,” dagdag niya.
Iniutos din ni Nartatez ang pagdaragdag ng police deployment sa Metro Manila at sa Davao City, na kilalang bailiwick ni Duterte, bilang paghahanda sa posibleng mga rally.
Pinaalalahanan din niya ang mga pulis na pairalin ang maximum tolerance at sundin ang rule of law, habang hinikayat ang mga lalahok sa protesta na maging disiplinado at sumunod sa mga awtoridad.
