Manila, Philippines – Nilinaw ni Senador Grace Poe na mas mataas ang badyet ng Department of Education (DepEd) sa 2025 kaysa sa kasalukuyanm na nadagdagan ng mahigit P20 bilyon, taliwas sa pananaw ni Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara.
Sa panayam, sinabi ni Poe, chairman ng Senate committee on finance, na alinsunod sa pinal na bersiyon ng 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA) na inaprubahan ng bicameral conference committee nitong Miyerkoles na tumanggap ang DepEd ng P737 bilyon kumpara sa kasalukuyang P717 bilyon.
Reaksiyon ito ni Poe sa pagkadismaya ni Angara, dating chairman ng Senate committee on finance, hinggil sa desisyon ng bicameral conference committee hinggil sa budget cut sa gastusin ng DepEd.
Nakatakda sa bicam-approved GAA, nabawasan ang ahensiya ng P12-billion budget mula s inaprubahang badyet noong Nobyembre 26 ng Senado partikular ang P10 bilyong badyet ng ahensiya sa pagbili ng mas maraming computers at gadgets sa estudyante sa pampublikong paaralan.
Pero, ayon kay Poe, “Funds are still available for the purchase of computers and the overall budget of DepEd increased … This is a testament to our continuing commitment to prioritize the education sector in line with the mission of our new secretary.”
Aniya, binigyan ng priority ang pangangailangan ng guro at estudyante sa public elementary at high schools.
“This is why we more than doubled the budget for teaching supplies allowance from P4.825 billion in 2024 to P9.948 billion next year,” ayon sa senador.
“Priorities had to be weighed and certain cuts on some programs had to be made. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that every peso allocated serves the real needs of our educators and learners,” ayon sa mambabatas.
Tinukoy din ni Poe ang natuklasan ng Commission on Audit na kalahaati lamang ang ngamit ng DepEd sa alokasyon para sa omputerization program noong nakaraang taon sa panahon ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
“We must see to it that all of the program’s systemic problems, such as procurement delays, be addressed first before allocating the corresponding budget increase,” ayon kay Poe. Ernie Reyes
