MANILA, Philippines — With many young Filipinos facing rising living costs and limited access to employer-sponsored healthcare, Maxicare has relaunched its PRIMA prepaid healthcare products to offer more flexible options for medical coverage.
For many workers, especially freelancers and the self-employed, getting sick often comes with the worry: “I can’t afford to be sick right now.”
The Philippine Statistics Authority estimates that freelancers and self-employed workers now make up a significant portion of the country’s labor force, many of whom are not covered by PhilHealth or employer-sponsored health maintenance organization plans.
As costs for rent, utilities, groceries, and other basic needs continue to rise, healthcare is often pushed down the list of priorities, not because it is unimportant, but because traditional health plans may feel financially out of reach.
Maxicare said its PRIMA products, a suite of prepaid healthcare cards and e-vouchers, were designed to make medical care more straightforward, flexible, and accessible.
