MANILA, Philippines – Inihahanda na ang mga regular na kulungan ng Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) para sa mga indibidwal na kakasuhan sa flood control scandal, ayon kay Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
“The BJMP is ready. The facilities are ready. We are not backing out of obligation to fulfill our role as the office in charge of all jails in the Philippines,” sinabi ni Remulla.
“We are preparing regular jail cells. If a thief of P100 at SM, if a thief and a shoplifter of lotion are jailed here, those who steal billions, in my opinion, should also be jailed here,” dagdag pa niya.
“The rules of the jail will apply to the rich and to the poor the same,” giit ni Remulla.
Idinagdag pa niya na bagamat ang mga korte ang tutukoy kung saan idi-detain ang mga sasampahan ng reklamo, ang New Quezon City Jail ang pinakamalapit na pasilidad ng BJMP sa special anti-graft court na Sandiganbayan.
Ayon sa DILG chief, ang New Quezon City Jail ay mayroong banyo, shower, kubeta, purified drinking water, lugar para mag-ehersisyo at private quarters kung saan makakapag-usap ang mga akusado at legal counsel.
Idinagdag din ni Remulla na ang custodial facility sa Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters sa Camp Crame, ay hindi gagamitin sa mga taong sangkot sa flood control scandal. RNT/JGC
