MALABON Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete has served as a session panelist in the 4th International Webinar on Conversation with Media and Information Literacy experts where he presented the city government’s initiatives to enhance media and information literacy among Malabueños.
“The local government aims to educate Malabueños in vigilance and help them learn how to identify legitimate information and become empowered residents and responsible users of social media.”
“Our programs teach residents how to consume media critically and disseminate information effectively through multiple platforms,” Rosete said.
During his presentation held online via Zoom conference, the city administrator shared that the local government integrates digitalization and MIL in several initiatives that promote well-informed and engaged Malabueños.
He said the Sandoval administration’s programs aim to enhance Malabueños critical thinking skills, promote responsible information sharing, and combat disinformation and disinformation while addressing various challenges such as lack of access to technology for marginalized sectors, and lack of financial resources available for trainings, and the wide-spread of false/fake news.
”Mayor Jeannie also conducts Facebook live broadcasts of various projects and programs where she personally shares details about programs allowing residents to gain first-hand insights into various local government operations.“
In January 2024, she launched the Malabon TV, the city’s local news platform that provides reliable and trusted educational content for Malabueños that aims to inform viewers about various subjects such as health and wellness, entrepreneurship, disaster preparedness, and share valuable insights younger audience that can help shape their future.
The city administrator also said that the local government focuses on making different services more accessible to Malabueños through digitalization.
As Malabon develops into a Media and Information Literate City, the local government is focused on expanding its programs not just for the city’s growth, but also for the security and benefit of the residents, the workaholic and dedicated city official said.
“Through these initiatives, we are looking forward to a better and advanced future where Malabueños are smart and responsible users of media platforms, allowing communities to prosper while improving the engagement between the city leaders and the residents,” he added.
