MANILA, Philippine- Inihayag ni farmers group Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (Sinag) Executive Director Jayson Cainglet nitong Sabado na mabebenipisyuhan ang consumers ng Executive Order (EO) 39 na ipinalabas ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., na nagtatakda ng price cap na P41 kada kilo para sa regular rice at P45 kada kilo para sa well-milled rice.
“From the current retail of P60 (per kilo) it will now become P45 (per kilo), definitely the consumers will benefit here,” ani Cainglet.

Idinagdag niya na sa kasalukuyan, ang umiiral na retail price para sa regular milled rice ay P52 kada kilo.
“The mere fact that you will bring down the regular and well-milled rice to P41 and P45, the benefit will be immediate,” patuloy niya.
Base kay Cainglet, magsisilbi rin umanong kompromiso ang P41 at P45 kada kilong price caps sa gitna ng posisyon ng ibang farmers’ groups na mataas pa rin ang price cap at oposisyon sa desisyon ng Pangulo na limitahan presyo ng staple food.
“Those who oppose (the price cap) are extreme; either they want to bring down the retail price further or want a higher retail price to increase the farmgate price of palay. So the P41 to P45 ceiling price is a compromise,” paliwanag niya.
Gayundin, pinabulaanan niya na kulang ang suplay ng bigas.
“Based on assurance of the millers and all in the industry, nobody is saying there is a shortage (of rice). There is probably hoarding and profiteering but not shortage,” paglalahad niya.
