SEOUL – Nakalabas si South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol ng detention center sa Seoul nitong Sabado matapos magdesisyon ng prosecutors na hindi umapela laban sa court decision na kanselahin ang arrest warrant ng impeached leader sa insurrection charges.
Nananatiling suspendido si Yoon, 64, sa kanyang mga tungkulin, at nagpapatuloy ang kanyang criminal at impeachment trials dahil sa saglit na pagpapairal niya ng martial law noong December 3.
Kinansela ng Seoul Central District Court ang arrest warrant ni Yoon noong Biyernes, binanggit ang timing ng kanyang indictment at “questions about the legality” ng investigation process.
“I would like to thank the Central District Court for their courage and determination in correcting the illegality,” pahayag ni Yoon.
Sinabi ng kanyang mga abogado na ang desisyon ng korte “confirmed that the president’s detainment was problematic in both procedural and substantive aspects,” at tinawag ang ruling na “beginning of a journey to restore rule of law”.
Hindi naman agad nakunan ng komento ang prosecutors.
Binatikos ng main opposition Democratic Party ang desisyon ng prosecutors dahil sa “throwing the country and people into crisis”, at hinimok ang Constitutional Court na tanggalin si Yoon sa opisina sa lalong madaling panahon. RNT/SA
