MANILA, Philippines – Kasabay ng paghahanda sa anumang pangyayari, nagpaalala si Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III nitong Lunes, Abril 20, sa mga kasamahan na manatiling patas o “impartial” sa oras na ang Articles of Impeachment laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte ay umabot na sa mataas na kapulungan para sa paglilitis.
Kasalukuyang isinasagawa ng House of Representatives committee on justice ang mga pagdinig upang matukoy kung mayroong probable cause para magpatuloy ang impeachment trial.
Target nitong matapos ang mga deliberasyon pagsapit ng Abril 29.
Para sa Senado, nakipagkita na si Sotto sa mga kasamahan para magbigay ng “heads up on the possibility of receiving the Articles of Impeachment” mula sa mababang kapulungan.
“We are preparing for any eventuality,” ayon pa kay Sotto.
“Our rules are in place. I am brushing up on a combination of the rules of Court and impeachment Procedures.”
“I will remind my colleagues to remain impartial in case the Articles of Impeachment reach us,” pagpapatuloy pa ng Senate President.
Nagkumpirma ito ng naunang pahayag ni Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson na ang mga senador ay kumukuha ng crash program sa Rules of Court at Revised Rules on Criminal Procedure para sa paghahanda sa impeachment trial ni Duterte.
“I am undergoing a crash program on the Rules of Court to jibe with our own Rules,” sinabi rin ni Sotto.
Samantala, pinuna naman ni Sotto ang pahayag ni dating presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo na apat na senador, kasama siya, ang boboto para panagutin si Duterte.
“Does Atty. Panelo have a crystal ball? We will remain impartial and wait for whatever will be presented. I resent that allegation,” ani Sotto.
Ang tatlo ipa pang pinangalanan ay sina Lacson, Senador Francis Pangilinan at Senador Risa Hontiveros.
Hindi ito ang unang pagkakataon na umabot sa Senado ang Articles of Impeachment laban kay Duterte. RNT/JGC
