MANILA, Philippines – Binuo ng Senado ang isang special committee na layong tumutok sa rehabilitasyon ng Manila Central Post Office na tinupok ng sunog nitong Mayo.
Ito ay kasunod ng unanimous vote ng mga senador sa Senate Resolution No. 639, na naglalayong bumuo ng panel na mag-aaral, magsusuri, magsasagawa ng assessment, mag-iimbestiga at magtatanong sa ilang aspeto kaugnay sa restoration ng makasaysayang gusali.
Inanunsyo ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri ang mga magiging miyembro ng Senate Special Committee on the Rehabilitation sa Manila Central Post Office ay sina:
Senate President Pro-Tempore Loren Legarda
Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel
Senator Pia Cayetano
Senator Nancy Binay
Senator Sonny Angara
Sa pag-sponsor ng resolusyon, inilarawan ni Legarda ang pagkasira ng gusali bilang
“profound loss for us Filipinos” at ang rehabilitation ay isang “important tribute to those who have come before us.”
“This restoration project is an important tribute to those who have come before us, to their craftsmanship and vision. It is a commitment to future generations. A promise that we will pass on this rich heritage, instilling in them a sense of pride and responsibility,” sinabi pa ni Legarda.
Matatandaan na tinupok ng sunog ang Manila Central Post Office noong Mayo 21 na tumagal ng mahigit 30 oras.
Nakatakda namang bumuo ng inter-agency task force para sa restoration ng gusali ng National Commission for Culture and the Arts. RNT/JGC
