MANILA, Philippines – Nag-iwan ng “bad taste” kay Senator-Judge Alan Peter Cayetano ang biglaang request ni NBI Director Melvin Matibag na mauna siyang sumalang sa witness stand dahil may dadaluhan siyang pagpupulong kasama ang FBI sa susunod na linggo.
“The 21 of us are here. The whole government, nakatutok. We put aside so many important things [for this], and then one witness who is in the government, who is a bureau head, will tell us he has to be with the FBI kaya siya na mauna tomorrow?” punto ni Cayetano sa impeachment trial nitong July 13, 2026.
Diin niya, nakasisira ng diskarte ang biglaang pag-iiba ng pagkakasunod-sunod ng witnesses, hindi lang para sa prosecution kundi para sa mga senator-judge na kinakailangan ding paghandaan ang pagsuri nila sa mga testimonya. Labag din ito sa 5-day notice rule ng Impeachment Court para sa mga testigo.
Dagdag niya, pwede namang deputy director ang dumalo sa nasabing biyahe imbes na siya.
“It’s a small inconvenience today, but I hope it doesn’t become a rule especially for a bureau head… Rules are important. We will not be able to move faster if we have to accommodate witnesses, especially if they’re in government,” giit niya. CESAR MORALES
