MANILA, Philippines – Nagpaabot ang Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) ng P116 milyong pautang para sa development ng bio-secured swine farm project sa Nueva Ecija.
Kabilang sa proyekto ang konstruksyon ng pitong duplex-type, wean-to-finish piggery buildings ng iPigs Agricultural Farm na matatagpuan sa 12.6-hectare property sa Laur.
Ang iPigs Agricultural Farm na nagsimula ng operasyon noong 2021, ay may kasalukuyang swine contract growing agreement sa Charoen Pokphand Foods Philippines Corp. (CPFPC).
Local subsidiary ng Thailand-based conglomerate ang CPFPC na may investment at partnerships sa 17 bansa sa buong mundo.
Ayon sa DBP, ang funding na nakuha ng iPigs Agricultural Farm ay isa sa mga kauna-unahang loan sa ilalim ng Swine Repopulation, Rehabilitation, and Recovery (Swine R3) Credit Program nito.
“DBP is excited to fund this initiative aligned with the vision of President Marcos of promoting a competitive and sustainable agriculture sector as a means to achieve poverty reduction and inclusive growth, as well as in ensuring sufficient food supply in the country,” sinabi ni DBP President and CEO Michael de Jesus.
Sa kabila ng laban ng bansa sa African swine fever, tumaas pa rin ng 3.3% ang hog production sa 1.8 milyong metriko tonelada noong 2023, mula sa 1.7 milyong MT sa nagdaang taon. RNT/JGC
