MANILA, Philippines- Maghahain ng multiple murder cases laban kay suspended Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. sa pagkamatay ng tatlong indibidwal noong 2019, ayon kay Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla nitong Biyernes.
Sinabi ni Remulla na ihahain ang kaso sa Regional Trial Court sa Manila.
“There’s a lot of evidence gathered, this took how many months, so almost four months of preliminary investigation,” pahayag ni Remulla sa isang press conference.
Inaaakusahan si Teves sa pagpatay kay Michael Dungog, dating Negros Oriental provincial board member, na binaril noong March 25, 2019 sa Dumaguete City.
Sasampahan din ang suspended lawmaker ng kasong pagpatay kay Lester Bato, bodyguard ng isang mayoral candidate noong May 26, 2019; at Pacito Libron na umano’y hitman na may kauganayan kay Teves.
“Ang tatlong kasong ito ay kasama sa mga bagay na nagbigay takot sa mga tao sa Negros Oriental,” ani Remulla.
“Mahabang panahon na kasi na maraming natatakot dito sapagkat ang pagpatay ng mga tao sa larangan ng pulitika at anu pa mang dahilan ay napakarami talagang nagyayari,” dagdag niya.
Inaakusahan din si Teves na mastermind umano ng March 4 bloodbath na pumaslang kay Gov. Roel Degamo at siyam pa.
Kamakailan ay idineklarang terorista ang mambabatas, na nasa ibang bansa, ng Anti-Terrorism Council.
Sinabi ng kanyang legal counsel na si Ferdinand Topacio na hindi na ito nakabibigla.
“Coming as it does in the wake of the declaration of our client as ‘terrorist’ by the Anti-Terrorism Council, we expect more of the same harassment to come. What else can we expect of a Justice Department whose leadership has been using the laws as a blunt instrument of persecution?” ani Topacio.
“With our faith in our justice system undimmed by the anomaly of a few men trenching upon the criminal justice system, we shall continue to defend the rights of our client to the fullest extent, confident that God sees the truth, but waits,” dagdag niya. RNT/SA
