MANILA, Philippines – Nananatiling in full operation ang tobacco trading sa bansa sa kabila ng pagsisimula ng tag-ulan, ayon sa National Tobacco Administration (NTA).
Sa pahayag nitong Sabado, Hunyo 14, sinabi ni NTA–La Union manager Dr. Giovanni Palabay na ang trading centers para sa flue-cured Virginia tobacco sa Ilocos ay mananatiling bukas hanggang Hunyo 30, 2025.
Ang tobacco trading centers na bukas sa Ilocos provinces ay ang Universal Leaf Philippines, Inc. (ULPI), Trans Manila, Inc., at Continental Leaf Tobacco Philippines, Inc.
Samantala, sinabi ni Palabay na mayroon pa ring available na Virginia tobacco ng mga magsasaka pagkatapos ng Hunyo 30 “the NTA can make a request for accommodation by the trading centers.”
“The highest buying price offered by the trading centers to the farmers could reach P130.00 per kilo, depending on the quality of the flue-cured Virginia tobacco leaves,” ani Palabay.
Sinabi rin ng NTA na ang trading operations para sa burley at native tobacco sa Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, at Cordillera Administrative Region ay magtatapos sa Agosto 31, 2025.
“The reported highest buying price for Burley tobacco per kilo is P118.00, while the native Batek tobacco is P175. 00 per kilo,” ayon pa sa NTA.
Tinukoy ng ahensya na hanggang noong Hunyo 4, 2025, mayroong 59,242 registered farmers sa bansa na nagtatanim sa 32,503 ektarya ng tobacco.
Bukod sa ULPI, kabilang sa iba pang buying companies ng Burley at native tobacco ay ang Pentaleaf sa Cagayan Valley, Antonio and Josefina Trading Center, at John Medriano Trading Center sa La Union. RNT/JGC
