MANILA, Philippines- Inanunsyo ng Department of Agriculture (DA) ang paglulunsad ng state-of-the-art vaccine unit sa Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (CenTrAD) sa lalawigan ng Nueva Ecija.
Ang DA-funded CenTrAD ay isang joint project sa pagitan ng Bureau of Animal Industry at Central Luzon State University (CLSU) ay gagamitin para sa ‘diagnosis, surveillance, research, at technology development’ laban sa transboundary diseases.
Sa isang kalatas, sinabi ni Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. na ang pasilidad ay makatutulong sa bansa para labanan ang infectious diseases at mapigilan ang economic losses, partikular na sa baboy at livestock industry.
“The National Animal Vaccination Program is about empowerment—empowering our farmers with knowledge, our veterinarians with resources, and our nation with the assurance that we are building a stronger, healthier future,” ayon sa Kalihim.
Kabilang sa transboundary diseases na maaaring mapigilan gamit ang pasilidad ay ang avian influenza (AI), African swine fever (ASF), at foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), bukod sa iba pa.
“It is a testament to the power of science, the importance of collaboration, and the undeniable truth that prevention is always better than cure,” ayon kay Tiu Laurel.
Tinatayang P151 million ang inilaan para sa three-year vaccine development, kabilang na ang pagbili ng gobyerno sa first Biosafety Level 3 Laboratory (BSL-3).
Sakop ng BSL-3, ang pananaliksik sa ‘indigenous at toxic microbes’ naglalayong magpalabas ng vaccine prototypes sa o bago magtapos ang termino ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa 2028.
Sa ngayon, may P230-million CenTrAD ang may hawak ng mga laboratoryo na may kaugnayan sa microbiology, virology, parasitology, histopathology, at molecular assays, kasama ng epidemiology training at digital analysis room. Kris Jose
