MANILA, Philippines – Iminungkahi ni Senator-Judge Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri na ibalik sa hapon ang impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte upang magkaroon ng mas mahabang oras ang prosekusyon at depensa sa paglalahad ng kanilang mga argumento.
Sa ika-14 na araw ng paglilitis, iminungkahi ni Zubiri na ganapin ang sesyon ng Senado sa alas-10 ng umaga at simulan ang impeachment trial sa alas-3 ng hapon upang hindi maantala ng legislative calendar ang pagdinig.
Ayon sa kanya, “I could see that having the sessions for the impeachment court in the morning, we have to put a halt because of the sessions in the afternoon.”
Dagdag pa niya, “Discussions such as these are important. When you present evidence and the cross will be done by the counsels for the respondent, hindi po mapuputol ‘yung kanilang discussion. Hanggang sawa tayo, pwede tayo dito from 3 to 10 ng gabi.”
Sinabi rin ni Zubiri na kung ililipat sa hapon ang trial, mas maraming oras ang publiko upang mapanood ang pagdinig at maaari ring mapabilis ang buong proseso.
Sina Senator-Judges Pia Cayetano at Camille Villar ay nagmungkahi na talakayin ang usapin sa isang caucus.
Ayon kay Senate impeachment court presiding officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero, “The points of the good gentleman are well taken, but we shall decide at appropriate time after caucus.”
Sa kasalukuyan, isinasagawa ang impeachment trial mula 10 a.m. hanggang 2 p.m., ngunit bago ito ay 2 p.m. pataas ang iskedyul ng pagdinig. RNT/MDS
