MANILA, Philippines – Pormal nang itinalaga ng House of Representatives noong Martes ang 11-kataong prosecution panel na binubuo ng mga mambabatas, abogado, at mga legal expert na kakatawan sa Kamara sa impeachment trial sa Senado laban kay Bise Presidente Sara Duterte.
Inatasan ang panel na iharap sa Senado ang Articles of Impeachment at mga ebidensiyang susuporta dito. Ayon sa mga lider ng Kamara, binubuo ang grupo ng mga senior lawmakers at legal practitioners mula sa mayorya at minorya.
Kabilang sa prosecution panel sina Reps. Joel Chua; Leila De Lima; Gerville Reyes-Luistro; Terry Ridon; Jose Manuel Diokno; Ysabel Maria Zamora; Lordan Suan; Jonathan Keith Flores; Lorenz Defensor; Ramon Rodrigo Gutierrez; at Arlene Bag-ao.
Ilan sa mga miyembro ng panel ay kilalang mga abogado. Si De Lima ay dating kalihim ng Katarungan at dating senador, habang si Diokno ay beteranong human rights lawyer at naging private prosecutor sa impeachment trial ni dating Pangulong Joseph Estrada. Si Bag-ao naman ay nagsilbing prosecutor sa Corona impeachment trial.
Si Luistro ay kasalukuyang chair ng House Committee on Justice, habang si Chua ang namumuno sa Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability. Sina Ridon, Zamora, Suan, Flores, Defensor, at Gutierrez ay may mga mahalagang tungkulin sa iba’t ibang komite ng Kamara.
Ayon sa mga lider ng Kamara, ang komposisyon ng panel ay nagpapakita ng layunin ng institusyon na itaguyod ang Konstitusyon at tiyaking ang impeachment case ay isasagawa nang may propesyonalismo at pagsunod sa due process.
Samantala, sinabi ni House Secretary General Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil na isinasagawa na ang reproduksyon ng Articles of Impeachment para sa pagsusumite sa Senado.
“The Articles of Impeachment and their attachments, which number in the thousands of pages, are currently being reproduced, collated, and checked to ensure that all copies are appropriately organized to ensure that each copy is a faithful reproduction of what was approved by the House of Representatives,” ani Garafil.
