MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng pamahalaang panlalawigan ng Iloilo na nasa “crisis mode” ito dahil sa mahigit 20 oras na power outage na tumama sa Panay island, Guimaras at ilang bahagi ng Negros Occidental.
“We are in a crisis mode. That is why we are here, we are monitoring, we want to treat the situation as under crisis because we are under crisis,” pahayag ni Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. sa panayam nitong Miyerkules, Enero 3.
Pinangunahan ni Defensor ang lahat ng department heads para magbigay ng update mula sa provincial civil defense cluster at gumawa ng kaukulang protocol at tutukan ang mga sitwasyon sa mga munisipalidad.
Dahil dito, nagdeklara pa nang suspensyon ng klase ang ilang bayan katulad ng Calinog at Leon.
Sa Huwebes, magkakaroon ng emergency meeting ang provincial at city governments kasama ang Department of Energy (DOE), National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), power generators, distribution utilities, at concerned local chief executives at stakeholders.
Ani Defensor, una sa kanilang agenda ay tugunan ang krisis sa kuryente at muling bisitahin ang mga direktiba ng DOE sa NGCP nang mangyari rin ang mga power outage noong Abril 2023.
“We are grateful the (DOE) secretary has agreed and he has assured us the Department of Energy is already on this problem and they are addressing this problem,” dagdag ni Defensor.
Nanawagan naman si Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas sa Kamara at Senado na busisiin ang dahilan ng mga power interruption.
“I am calling on our congressmen to initiate a congressional investigation of the incident since yesterday that has caused power interruption in Panay, Guimaras, and Negros. In the same way, I call on the Senate to do the same. NGCP holds a franchise from Congress and therefore is accountable to it,” saad sa pahayag ni Treñas.
Sa kasalukuyan, ang city hall ng Iloilo ay gumagamit ng generator.
Naglagay naman ng cellphone charging stations sa Jaro Plaza, Molo Plaza at ABC Kapihan sa Molo, Barangay Block 22 Hall sa Mandurriao, tennis court area sa La Paz Plaza, at Kerr and Co. building sa city proper para masiguro ang tuloy-tuloy na connectivity. RNT/JGC
