MANILA, Philippines- Nakaalis na ng bansa ang tatlong research vessels na namataan kamakailan sa Ayungin (Second Thomas) Shoal, ayon sa isang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) official nitong Huwebes.
“The three other research vessels were found to be just passing by,” pahayag ni AFP spokesperson Francel Margareth Padilla.
Sinabi rin ng opisyal na nilisan ng research vessels ang exclusive economic zone ng bansa noong Lunes.
Sinabi ni Commodore Roy Vincent Trinidad, Navy spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, na ang presensya ng naturang vessels sa Ayungin Shoal ay “unprecedented.”
Iniugnay din ni Trinidad ang pagsulpot ng research vessels ng Beijing sa umiiral na “Balikatan” war games sa pagitan ng Manila at Washington, na matatapos sa May 10.
“It is their way of showing that they are not deterred. They are not scared of what is happening in the West Philippine Sea,” ani Trinidad sa regular AFP press conference noong Martes.
Iginigiit ng Beijing ang soberanya nito sa buong South China Sea — kasama ang malaking bahagi ng West Philippine Sea — sa kabila ng July 2016 arbitral tribunal ruling na bumabasura sa claims nito batay sa kasong inihain ng Manila noong 2013. RNT/SA
