MANILA, Philippines- Ipinanukala ng isang opisyal ng Department of Education (DepEd) na alisin ang tatlong general education courses gaya ng ‘art appreciation, contemporary world, at ethics’ sa college curriculum.
Mas maganda ayon kay DepEd Assistant Secretary Janir Datukan na idagdag ito sa high school program.
“We have five [subjects]…meaning 15 units out of the 50 existing units of General Education, which are already integrated in senior high school [curriculum]. That 15 units will increase with these three courses [which is three units each]: art appreciation, contemporary world and ethics,” ang sinabi ni Datukan sa pagdinig ng House Committee on Basic Education and Culture ukol sa revised senior high school (SHS) curriculum.
“The DepEd has mapped it out and I have also reviewed and found out that these are included in subjects taken by Grades 7 to 12. We don’t want a duplication. So, when we add them up, there will be 24 units less in college which is already equivalent to one semester,” dagdag niya.
Ang presentasyon ng DepEd sa House panel ay nagsasabi na ang ‘art appreciation’ ay matatagpuan sa arts subject, ang contemporary world ay maaaring isama sa Araling Panlipunan, at ang ethics ay paksa sa ilalim ng Good Manners and Right Conduct and Values Education.
Ang limang ‘core subjects’ na masasakop ng revised SHS curriculum ay “Effective Communication (Mabisang Komunikasyon), Life Skills, General Mathematics, General Science at Pag-aaral ng Kasaysayan at Lipunang Pilipino.”
Ang lahat ng nasabing core subjects ay maaaring makuha at mapag-aralan sa Grade 11, lalo pa’t ang Grade 12 ay ekslusibo para sa kukuha ng electives o ‘set of subjects’ na nauugnay sa cluster na napiling kunin ng estudyante.
Ang electives ay nahahati naman sa dalawang clusters. ito ay ang Academic at TechPro clusters.
Ang Academic cluster para sa mga naghahangad na ituloy ang college education ay kinabibilangan ng mga sumusunod na electives gaya ng :
Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities
Business and Entrepreneurship
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
Sports, Health and Wellness
Field Experience
Ang TechPro cluster ay para sa sumusunod na electives:
Agriculture and Fishery Arts
Information and Communications Technology
Family and Consumer Science
Industrial Arts
Maritime
Work Immersion
