MANILA, Philippines – Idineklara ng Comelec na nuisance candidates sa 2025 senatorial polls ang 47 indibidwal.
Inilathala ng Comelec ang listahan nito sa kanilang social media accounts.
Nakatanggap ang Comelec ng 183 certificates of candidacy (COCs) noong nakaraang buwan.
Kalaunan ay naglabas ito ng inisyal na listahan ng 66 indibidwal na maaaring maisama ang pangalan sa opisyal na balota.
Sinabi ng Comelec na ito ay “without prejudice to the decision of the Division or En Banc in the petitions to declare as nuisance candidates filed by the Law Department.”
Dagdag pa ng komisyon na niresolba ito “to confirm the authority of the Law Department to initiate on behalf of the Commission the motu proprio filing of petitions to declare as nuisance candidates against the named 117 aspirants.”
Ayon sa Omnibus Election Code, maaaring ideklara ng Comelec na ang aspirant ay isang nuisance candidate kung ang COC ay inihain ”to put the election process in mockery or disrepute or to cause confusion among the voters by the similarity of the names of the registered candidates or by other circumstances or acts [that] clearly demonstrate that the candidate has no bona fide intention to run.”
Nauna nang sinabi ni Comelec Chairman George Garcia na plano nilang resolbahin ang lahat ng nuisance candidate petitions sa katapusan ng Nobyembre. RNT/JGC
