TINATAYANG nasa P11 bilyon halaga ng mga pekeng produkto ang nasamsam ng mga tauhan ng Bureau of Customs (BOC), sa pamamagitan ng Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) sa isinagawang operasyon sa Binondo, Maynila noong Hunyo 14, 2024.
Ayon sa BOC, kabilang sa kanilang mga nakumpiska na counterfeit items ay mga brand na Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Nike, Rolex, Apple, Hermes, at Dior.
Nabatid sa BOC na ang mga may-ari ng mga nasamsam na produkto ay binigyan ng 15-araw upang magbigay ng patunay ng pagbabayad ng mga tamang tungkulin at buwis at ebidensya ng lehitimong pag-aangkat nito, na lumipas noong Hunyo 28, 2024.
Dahil dito, inisyuhan ng Warrant of Seizure at Detention (WSD) laban sa mga pekeng produkto alinsunod sa Seksyon 214 at 1113 ng Customs Modernization and Tariff Act na may kaugnayan sa R.A. No. 8293, na kilala rin bilang “Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.”
“The BOC-IPRD coordinated with brand owners to confirm that the seized items were counterfeit and infringed upon their intellectual property rights,” saad ng BOC.
Ayon sa BOC, sisirain ang mga nakumpiskang pekeng produkto upang hindi na ito mapakinabangan pa.
“We will not tolerate any form of counterfeiting,” ayon kay Deputy Commissioner Juvymax R. Uy ng BOC Intelligence Group.
