MANILA, Philippines – Hindi interesado ang pamahalaan na magbigay ng access sa International Criminal Court (ICC) sa findings ng nagpapatuloy na House quad committee investigation kaugnay sa extrajudicial killings (EJKs) sa panahon ng madugong war on drugs ng Duterte administration.
Nitong Lunes, Oktubre 14, ay sinalag ng Malakanyang ang panawagan na ipasa sa ICC ng Marcos administration ang mga rebelasyon ng mga key witnesses sa mga pagdinig upang makatulong sa imbestigasyon din nito kaugnay sa EJKs.
“The Philippines will not return to the ICC,” saad sa pahayag ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
“Based on this, the President is not expected to change his mind and now refer the quad comm matter to the ICC.”
Ang pahayag na ito ni Bersamin ay tugon niya sa pahayag ng National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers na ipasa ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos jr. ang mga materyales ng quad committee, sa ICC.
Sinabi rin ni Human Rights Watch senior researcher Carlos Conde na mas mainam para sa pamahalaan ang makipagtulungan sa ICC sa pagpayag sa mga imbestigador na magkaroon ng access sa mga witness at mga testimonya ng mga ito, kasunod ng rebelasyon ni retired Police Col. Royina Garma kaugnay sa drug war.
Sa virtual press briefing nitong Lunes, nanindigan din si quad committee lead chair Rep. Robert Ace Barbers na walang plano ang super panel na iturn-over ang anumang record nito o mga dokumento sa ICC.
“We cannot submit anything to the ICC. We cannot even allow them access to our records. But if they use the proceedings under different social media platforms, they can do so because they’re public,” ani Barbers.
“But as far as submitting to the ICC the documents we have, we will not do that,” dagdag pa nito. RNT/JGC
