MANILA, Philippines – Paiigtingin ni bagong PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III ang mga ‘legal’ na pag-aresto sa kanyang kampanya kontra illegal na droga.
“The number of arrests is part of our metric. Ramp up arrests, go ahead, ramp it up,” pahayag ni Torre sa press briefing sa
Camp Crame nitong Lunes, Hunyo 2.
Nang tanungin naman kung makakaapekto ba ang insentibo sa pag-aresto ng mga indibidwal at abusuhin para lamang maabot ang quota, sinabi ni Torre na ang bukas ang mga mekanismo katulad ng PNP Internal Affairs Service para sa reklamo ng publiko.
“Now, make sure what you’re doing is right because if the fiscal says your arrest was illegal, that’s a problem,” aniya.
“If you’re brought to the Internal Affairs Service, the Napolcom, the PLEB, you’ll know your place. So, there’s a check-and-balance to the abuses you claim,” dagdag pa nito.
Tila nagpasaring din umano si Torre sa nakaraang war on drugs ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa pagsasabing:
“You arrested them. You did not shoot them, you did not kill them. They’re alive. Human rights are there.” RNT/JGC
