VALENZUELA City Mayor Wes Gatchalian has been named among Mayors for Good Governance or M4GG, a movement of local chief executives championing integrity, accountability, and transparency.

“Good governance is not a trend in Valenzuela – it has been our way of life for years. M4GG is a chance to bring the same fight for accountability and transparency to the national stage,” he said.

Gatchalian has launched several programs for the welfare of his ‘Pamilyang Valenzuelano’ – from quality and inclusive education, robust social welfare initiatives, peace and order advantage, housing projects, to disaster preparedness, and flood resilience efforts, to name a few.

Under his leadership, the city has consistently gained recognition for good governance, having been conferred the Seal of Good Local Governance for two consecutive years, and maintaining unmodified opinion from Commission on Audit – a clear testament of transparency and accountability of its financial management.

The city government has viewed the recognition as a strong affirmation of Gatchalian’s steadfast commitment to good governance, and his dedication to delivering fast, quality, and efficient public service and programs for the residents.

Tiangco challenges Co

Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco once again challenged Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Elizaldy ‘Zaldy’ Co to release and make public the amendments made by the small committee to the 2025 national budget.

“Muli nating hinahamon si Rep. Zaldy Co na ilabas at isapubliko ang amendments na ginawa ng small committee sa 2025 National Budget, para makita ng lahat kung saan nagbawas at saan nagdagdag ng pondo.”

Tiangco said the House of Representatives should go beyond ceremonies and “walk the talk” when it comes to transparency.

“The House leadership should compel him to do so. We cannot and should not move forward if we do not hold those responsible for the national budget accountable,” he said.

Navotas partners with DENR, Aboitiz to rehabilitate river

The Navotas City government has teamed up with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Therma Mobile Inc. a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power to rehabilitate and protect a portion of the Navotas River under the Adopt-an-Estero/Water Body Program.

Mayor John Rey Tiangco sealed the memorandum of agreement (MOA) with DENR’s Environmental Management Bureau-National Capital Region (EMB-NCR) director Divina Camarao and the firm’s Assistant Vice President for Corporate Services Lou Jason Diligencia to rehabilitate the river.

The MOA covers a one-kilometer stretch of the Navotas River traversing the villages of NBBS Dagat-dagatan and NBBS Kaunlaran, which drains into Manila Bay.
