PARAÑAQUE CITY, Philippines – Arestado ang isang Chinese national sa isang iniulat na scam hub sa Parañaque City, sabi ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Sa isang pahayag, kinilala ng NBI ang dayuhan na si Li Zhenjie na naaresto noong Nobyembre 21 sa serbisyo ng Warrant to Search, Seize, and Examine Computer Data (WSSECD) ng mga operatiba ng Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD) ng bureau.
Sinabi rin nito na ang mga nasamsam ay “devices containing critical social engineering scripts.”
Si Li ay sinampahan ng kaso sa Parañaque City Prosecutor’s Office para sa social engineering schemes na lumalabag sa Section 4(b)(1) ng Republic Act (RA) No. 12010, ang Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act, kaugnay ng RA 10175, ang Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, idinagdag nito.
Sinabi ng NBI na ang aplikasyon nito para sa pagpapalabas ng search warrant ay batay sa kumpidensyal na impormasyon sa isang “sophisticated scam operating from a condominium unit in Parañaque City.”
“The perpetrators were using spoofed contact numbers, impersonating agents of the New Haven Police Department in Connecticut, USA, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Washington,” saad nito. “The perpetrators would demand from victims the transfer of cryptocurrency, ranging from $3,000 to $5,000, to an account under the alias ‘GENERAL’ in exchange for not issuing a fictitious nationwide online arrest warrant.” RNT/MND
