MANILA, Philippines – Pinuri ni Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste ang naging aksyon ni Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon na alisin ang mga opisyal ng ahensya na napatunayang mga contractors din.
Ang aksyon ni Dizon ay kasunod rin ng pagbubunyag ni Leviste na may mga opisyal ng DPWH na konektado sa mga construction firms na nakakuha ng bilyong proyekto sa ahensya.
Ang tinanggal ay may ranggo na Assistant Secretary at Director IV.
“Secretary Vince did not know these two were contractors initially, and I thank him for acting quickly once an investigation confirmed this,” pahayag ni Leviste.
“The government is full of DPWH contractors, and officials from all over government – not only Congressmen and Senators – try to get insertions. This diverts the budget towards money-making projects like flood control and roads instead of classrooms and hospitals in districts like mine that do not condone buying budgets and bid-rigging,” paliwanag pa niya.
Si Leviste ang tumukoy kay CWS Partylist Rep. Edwin Gardiola, na hindi lamang mambabatas kundi isa ding kontraktor na nakakakuha ng malalaking proyekto sa DPWH.
Sinasabing malapit si Gardiola kay Undersecretary Arrey Perez, na nagbitiw na sa pwesto kamakailan, at ang tinanggal ni Dizon na Assistant Secretary at Director IV ay ipinasok ni Perez bago siya umalis sa DPWH.
Tiwala ang mambabatas na tuloy-tuloy na ang magiging reporma sa DPWH. Sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni Dizon, naibaba ang Construction Material Price Data, kung saan tinatayang P60 bilyon ang matitipid. Gail Mendoza
