CEBU, Philippines – Sa kabila ng malakas na ulan noong Sabado, ipinagpatuloy ang search and rescue operations sa Binaliw landfill kung saan kinumpirma ng mga awtoridad ang apat na nasawi, 12 sugatan, at 34 na nawawala.
Ayon kay Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak, chairperson ng Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, dalawa sa mga nasawi ay hindi pa narerecover dahil sa mabibigat na istruktura sa lugar.
“As of now, we still have not been able to retrieve two of the casualties because of the massive beams. We are using the appropriate equipment, and operations to remove the beams are ongoing,” ani Tumulak.
Sinabi rin ni Tumulak na patuloy ang clearing operations ng rescue teams, ngunit hindi pa nila matiyak kung may mga senyales pa ng buhay sa ilalim ng mga debris.
“We are still clearing debris. We cannot say at this point whether there are signs of life or none,” aniya.
Sa kabila ng mga hamon, sinabi ni Tumulak na magpapatuloy ang search and rescue hanggang Enero 11.
Binigyang-diin niya na ito ay nananatiling search and rescue mission at hindi pa recovery operation.
Ayon pa kay Tumulak, delikado ang sitwasyon ng mga rescuer dahil sa malakas na ulan, ngunit nagpasya pa rin silang ipagpatuloy ang operasyon alang-alang sa mga pamilyang naghihintay sa labas ng lugar.
“Based on our discussions with the rescuers, everyone decided to continue. We owe it to the families who are waiting outside. This is very difficult, very painful,” ayon kay Tumulak. RNT/MND
